Competency Based Training
One of the advantages of belonging to a 4wd club affiliated with the SAAFWDC is access to competency based 4wd training.
The training is nationally accredited and is conducted by club members, who are qualified advisors, trainers and assessors. These people are members of the driver training unit of the
association, and have themselves been trained to pass on their knowledge to members in a structured course.
The competencies covered include, vehicle safety checks, driving techniques for different terrain, (eg. Sand, mud and rock ) and procedures to get yourself and others out of difficult
situations (eg. controlled reverse descent and snatch recovery ).
The initial sections of the course are designed to give novice four wheel drivers a platform to build their experience on. Drivers learn at their own pace and the safety of people and
vehicles is of prime importance.
Both the theory and practical components of 4wding are covered during the course and more advanced skills can be mastered by those wishing to extend their training. Training days are
scheduled once a month and can also be combined with club trips, either day trips or weekends.
If you would like to become more confident in both your ability and that of your vehicle perhaps this training could be for you.
